To finish first, first you must finish

August 5th, 2010

“To finish first, first you must finish.” The phrase may be a little cliché but it seems to sum up Chad Boat’s midget season in a nutshell. Being plagued by various fuel issues and wiring issues during USAC Midget Week, and motor issues the first two nights of POWRi Midget Money Week, the demons were finally put to rest in the feature event at Junction Motor Speedway on Wednesday night.

By virtue of a third place heat race finish, Chad would line up on the inside of the sixth row for the feature event. Steadily moving his way towards the front during the 35-lap feature event, Chad would slide-job his way up through the field and claim the final podium spot behind eventual race winner Bryan Clauson, and defending USAC National Midget champion, Brad Kuhn.

“We had a great race car tonight,” Chad said after the race. “I think this motor was a little down on power, but we’ve been saving our best motor for Belleville so I feel confident with our chances to win with that one.”

Chad and the Billy Boat Motorsports team will spend the day off putting a fresh motor in the #30 for the ultra-fast Belleville High Banks. The 33rd Annual Belleville Midget Nationals will be run on Friday and Saturday.
